Planets Flashcards

Teach your students the names of the planets with these awesome planet flashcards! Learn about planets and space with these 28 space vocabulary flashcards!

Not only can your kids learn the names of every planet, but they can learn about asteroids, aliens, and rockets! Kids absolutely love learning about space, and once they know the names of the planets they will be teaching them to their siblings and friends.

When teaching about the planets, I found it was very useful to assign each planet with a specific adjective like small, red, or cold. Then once the children tell me the planet’s name, I asked them if they could describe the planet. Once the children learn about the planets, you can have more natural conversations about space and the solar system.

After practicing with the planet flashcards,  give your students a flashcard and challenge them to line up in the correct order. It might take a few tries, but when they finally remember, you will see students helping other students get into the correct planet order. In my class, I found it was helpful to have the children line up in the planet order constantly. I actually asked the children to call their friends by their planet name! The kids found it entertaining and in a week or two, they could remember the order of the planets better than myself : )

When making crafts, we made astronaut masks! There are many templates online and you can find some on my Pinterest page. I had my students make their own design and encouraged them to add accessories onto the outside of the design template. Some of my kids got really creative and it made for great conversation in class.
