Verb Flashcards

Teach 52 Verbs to your class with these cute verb flashcards! Verbs are an essential part of every language. Once your students know a few verbs, they can start to make basic sentences. If your students are beginners, start with sentences like ‘I eat ……..’ or I ‘play…….’. When children can make basic sentences easily, start to add prepositions at the end to make sentences like ‘I eat…..at the restaurant’ or I play……..at the park’.

Try giving a flashcard to each of your students and go around in a circle as the children give you an example. If this is difficult for your students, first practice the verb cards together with a chant, and then have a discussion asking for examples from your students. Once you have practiced, you are ready to try the verb activity again. Remember to build confidence first before testing your students in front of their friends : )

Verb flashcards DOWNLOAD

These verb flashcards are great visual aids for the children because when used on a whiteboard, the children can clearly see what the meaning is before they have to read it. For this reason, sometimes they are great to use when learning how to read or write sentences. Children can start to understand the subject-verb-object sentence structure when making a repetitive example on the whiteboard.

Don’t forget to download the verb poster and put it up in your classroom!  Also, why not print small versions of the poster and send them home so your kids can practice : ) children love to receive their own personal teaching materials. I have seen children take these verb sheets home and the next week, they are teaching their little brothers and sisters!

Verbs are useful words, but try to teach just a few at a time : ) After your children learn all of the present tense verbs, why not try our past tense verbs too!
